OFFICE IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
November 1, 2003

In an effort to better serve the Cambodian-American people in the United States, the Cambodian American National Council (CANC) seeks a full-time and permanent office to be located in our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.

As we all know, Washington D.C. is the heart of national politics and where we may potentially be most effective.  Maintaining an office in this location will allow CANC to be closer to decision-makers and other organizations that also have similar goals and ideals.  Washington D.C. is already home to many national Asian ethnic groups and organizations and if we do not follow suit, we will be left even further behind.

This D.C. office shall serve as the center of all activities of CANC and will coordinate both ongoing projects and internal and administrative matters.  Having this office in Washington D. C. will allow CANC to have a presence in the place where many important issues concerning Cambodian-Americans are debated, decided and determined.  We wish to have what most other Asian ethnicities currently enjoy.  At this time, Cambodian-Americans are without a single national voice in America and we believe an excellent start will be to have this D.C. office.

Of course, being CANC, this office will be open and accessible to all Cambodians.  This office shall serve as a launching point where ideas and projects may be conceived, implemented and conducted.  Our goal at CANC is to have three full-time employees staffed in the D.C. office.  This staff will be composed of a manager and two support personnel.

Duties of the manager will include coordinating activities and communications of all CANC Board Members, act as a liaison between CANC and other organizations (both Cambodian organizations and other ethnicities), coordinate current ongoing CANC projects, serve as representative of CANC when appropriate, maintain a networking and public relations campaign, develop and maintain fundraising activities, and other related duties as determined.  The support staff shall serve in a capacity that is seen fit by the manager.

In order to make this dream a reality, the most important item is funding.  CANC believes an initial operating budget of $100,000.00 will allow this project to be initiated and developed into a fully functioning and operating office.  This budget will cover the costs of staff salary, office space, operating costs and all other costs associated with running the office.

CANC believes in this goal and believes that it will provide benefits that have never been realized in the past.  This office will allow for more efficiency and production in a manner that will improve both the image and position of Cambodian-Americans nationwide.  We hope for your support.
